Robert Dabi's design philosophy centers around creating a deeper connection between the user and the product. His designs encourage interaction and curiosity, transforming the mundane task of lighting a room into an engaging experience. Cling, his latest creation, is a testament to this philosophy. This minimalistic and flexible floor lamp features a large, spotless LED ring that can be moved into any position, allowing the user to change the lamp's appearance and adapt it to its surroundings.
The unique properties of Cling lie in its design and construction. The lamp's steel pole smoothly transitions into a bent frame that holds the LED ring. A flexible section between the frame and pole allows the ring to be moved freely, creating a dynamic lighting experience. Despite its flexibility, Cling is designed with stability in mind. The heavy steel base and lightweight aluminium top ensure that the lamp remains stable in all positions.
Cling is not just a product of innovative design, but also of meticulous craftsmanship. Currently in its prototype stage, the lamp is manufactured in Dabi's studio. The transition between the vertical pole and the ring is made smooth by a gooseneck layered with silicon and black woven nylon. The lamp can also be disassembled for easy transport, further enhancing its functionality.
Technical specifications of Cling include a spotless LED light source with a luminosity of 1500 lumens and a power consumption of 15W. The lamp stands between 1300 and 2000 mm tall, with a base diameter of 250 mm. The LED ring has a diameter of 550 mm and is made of aluminium. The lamp is finished in matte black and weighs approximately 2.5 kg.
Robert Dabi's Cling is a shining example of how design can transform everyday objects into interactive and engaging experiences. It is a testament to the power of innovative design and meticulous craftsmanship. As Dabi continues to push the boundaries of lighting design, we can look forward to more groundbreaking creations from his studio.
